The United States is one of the richest countries in the world, but unfortunately many who live here are homeless. By taking photographs of homeless individuals, I give my subjects a presence by bringing them out of the shadow of invisibility and illuminating the problem of homelessness in America. 

I hope the next time someone encounters a homeless person, he or she does not look away. Please make eye contact and offer a smile: a simple gesture of human kindness is all it takes.
