The Hub on Canal Offers Free Therapeutic Art Classes for Seniors with Alzheimer’s Disease and Their Caregivers
Kick Off Event for Caregivers to Be Held on January 9, 2019
The Hub on Canal, Inc. will be offering free therapeutic art classes at 10:30 on Wednesdays beginning on January 9, 2019 at The Hub on Canal. The free classes are part of a cooperative effort between The Hub on Canal and the Alzheimer’s Association. A kick off event for caregivers will be held on January 9, 2019. The event will be offered from 10:30am – noon at The Hub on Canal.
Memories in the Making is a free art program that provides people experiencing early-stage Alzheimer’s and dementia with a forum to express themselves through watercolor painting and drawing. The primary focus in this outreach program is to provide students with a calm, carefree, and fun class in a safe environment. Caregivers are welcome to attend and participate. No art experience is needed. Interested families should contact Alzheimer’s Association at 1-800-272-3900 (Alzheimer’s Association) to enroll as space is limited.
The kickoff event for caregivers will provide an overview of how Alzheimer’s affects a person’s ability to communicate, how to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and strategies to help you connect and communicate at each state of the disease. After the presentation, caregivers will be able to join the painting class.
“The Hub on Canal, Inc. is excited about this opportunity because it allows us to give back to a segment of our local population that is often overlooked. Our therapeutic art program for Alzheimer´s patients is the only one offered in east Central Florida,” said Richard England, President of The Hub on Canal, Inc.
