Judi Bradford has a degree in art and did graduate work in experimental photography.  She was a menu and resort illustrator and published a Key West comic strip for many years.  Currently she creates two- and three-dimensional pieces in many media: watercolor, acrylic, fiber, ink, pencil, transfers and more.
Her work has won awards and been represented in many shows east of the Mississippi, and is included in numerous private collections. She moved to DeLand four years ago from Key West and is currently on the DeLand Fall Festival of the Arts board.

ARTIST STATEMENT
The series I am working on now began as an autobiographical journey through my Florida childhood, family, friends, career(s), with reflections on the passage of time and the misty forms of memories. As events took over the year 2020, current work also includes references to COVID-19 lockdowns, precautions, isolation. in addition, during ancestry research last year, I discovered relatives I had not known of and unexpected histories.  That inspired a lot of pondering on the nature of a person’s life, which became images — a sort of self portrait of personal icons in analog form — appropriate since I was born ante-video and ante-gif.
I am working in mixed media on layered art papers and in handmade artist books. These pieces combine illustrations, paper manipulations and even some hat-making techniques from my millinery sideline. The artist books are one-of-a-kinds or small limited editions, generally built on Arches watercolor paper, other handmade and art papers, silk and other materials.  The illustrations are primarily done in water soluble inks, along with other two-dimensional media and some image transfer processes.
Sometimes the blot from a dripping watercolor brush can lead you into forms that recall events and people you thought were gone from memory. This exhibition follows some of those misty figures as well as contemporary observations of life and people.  Two-dimensional works on paper and in collage capture introspective free form.  Some pieces experiment with narrative content, others with materials and effects.  Three-dimensional artist books explore the book concept in paper and fiber.
