Driven to Abstraction

Helen Wheatley’s paintings in the exhibition, Driven to Abstraction, have been created spontaneously. The underlying textures are random and unplanned, but the color combinations are carefully considered in each piece.

Viewers will travel through Wheatley’s past and present, encountering places, things and emotions that have had an impact on her life. The viewer might get lost in the great western states, experience the peace and strength of bamboo, be awed by the power of Mother Nature, find oneself surrounded in a city, or be completely alone on the dock of a bay.

Wheatley is warmed by the memories of her travels, yet startled to find she has been influenced by news that she barely remembers. Allowing the process to take her wherever it chooses, brings Wheatley greater insight into her own true being.
