Art in the Form of Film with Paul Marino – The French Lieutenant’s Woman

May 17, 5:45 pm - 9:00 pm

Date: Friday, May 17, 5:45-9pm

Special Fee: $7, includes a glass of wine or bottle of water

This complex, star-heavy film was nominated for five Oscars, though it won none. Actors Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons each play two roles in this film that tracks the making of a film. The filmed story is set in 19th century England and Irons’ character Charles, engaged to another woman, falls in love with Streep’s Sarah, a haunting social outcast, set adrift by her relationship with a French Lieutenant. On the set of the movie that’s the subject of this film, the relationship between Streep’s and Irons’ modern day characters, Anna and Mike, mirrors that of their film roles. Instructor Paul Marino will introduce the film, raise questions to ponder and host a post-viewing discussion.
