Based on the true story of Homer Hickman, someone you’ve likely never heard of, this film is inspirational, sincere, and full of heart. Homer grew up in a small mining town deep in the heart of West Virginia. To say it was an environment unsupportive of science is an understatement, but Homer managed to build, while in high school, a rocket, after watching Sputnik cross the sky in 1957. Everything works in this film from the story itself, to the actors, as well as its directing. October Sky is truly a great film and one not to be missed. Instructor Paul Marino will introduce the film, raise questions to ponder and host a post-viewing discussion.
