Saturday, May 1
Gallery Opening Receptions from 4-7pm:
May Exhibition Opening in The Founders Gallery Life in Line, pencil illustrations by William Gura. It starts and ends with a pencil and a piece of paper. An artist faces a special challenge when nothing but lines define his work. Gura deploys nothing but lines–cross hatching–to create shadows, folds, feelings and render his subjects. Between those lines you’ll find emotions and know what’s in the hearts and minds of his characters. Gura’s portraiture places him in a very select group of artists. Opening from 4-7pm. Exhibition through May 30.
May Exhibition Opening in The Fine Art Photography Gallery The Sky’s The Limit by photographer Steve Trofatter. Color images of lightning bolts, space launches, sunrises and sunsets. “Surrounded by the beauty of Florida,” Trofatter says, “I’m always looking up at the sky for inspiration to create my next composition. Sunrises, sunsets, moons and rockets illuminate the sky and are among my favorite subjects.” Opening from 4-7pm. Exhibition through June 27, in The Fine Art Photography Gallery, 120 Canal Street. As part of the exhibition, Steve Trofatter will lead an Artist’s Talk on Thursday, May 13, 2-3pm about the exhibit and his approach to photography. Free and open to the public. Seating is limited; please call 386.957.3924 to reserve. Masks required.
Art Connections from 10am-7pm: An inside look at the work of more than 60 local artists. Talk to the artists and learn about the process of creating art. Explore two floors of art in one historic building in the heart of the New Smyrna Beach Arts District.
