Painting and manipulating paper then composing a picture gives me a feeling of being totally creative. It is a dimension above the Commercial Art which I studied, and the Realism courses I took, when learning to master oil, watercolor and acrylics. It stirs up an innate drive to create using a tactile technique. My pictures reflect personal messages, moods and stored thoughts which I wish to share with the viewer. I find collaging and de `collaging in this minimalistic, non-representational style very exciting and fulfilling.
I was born in the central part of Virginia near Gordonsville. After high school, and Washington SchooI of Art, I moved to Richmond, VA, and accepted a job with State Farm Insurance which transferred me to Daytona Bch. Six months after meeting James Parker, who had recently transferred from Miami with Florida Power and Light we were married. We had three children. Shortly after our second child was born, Daytona Beach Junior College became accredited. I enrolled and subsequently received an AA, then transferred to the University of Central Florida where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. During the period of seeking a bachelor’s degree, I. held a full time paid position with the American Lung Association (ALA). Eventually, the position of Regional Director was offered to me, which I accepted. After a 19 year career with The ALA, I retired and resumed art activates. Participating in outdoor art shows for ten years, gave me the outlet to display my artwork. Many pieces received judge’s awards and were bought by collectors. Other venues for displaying and selling the work have been in Art Galleries, Museums and Art Leagues in Daytona Beach, St. Augustine and other cities in the United States. Currently, I teach drawing at The Artists’ Workshop, Inc. in New Smyrna Beach, FL.; present demonstrations and judge art exhibits.
