I am a graduate of The Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland (1981) where I earned a BFA with a double major in fine art and photography. After college I worked for several years as a graphic artist before taking time off to raise a family. While I managed to take a few classes during that time I began to work more consistently once the youngest went off to college.
In June, 2011 I had my first show at The Water’s Edge Gallery in Berlin, Maryland. Also that summer, I entered a Plein Air contest sponsored by The Art League of Ocean City in Ocean City, Maryland winning first place. I enjoy Plein Air but the elements are a distraction for me. Therefore, I prefer to work from photographs.
In 2012, I relocated to New Smyrna Beach and joined the Hub family. I continue to evolve as an artist working with other mediums. Most recently I began working with encaustic. Since I’m working with hot wax the medium encourages me to work quickly and simplify the image, focusing on capturing the most poignant and exciting aspects.
