Born and raised on a farm in rural Illinois gave me a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors.  My love of photography started when I was very young; always an observer, seeing things others perhaps didn’t notice.  Finding and capturing that hidden essence of a subject is a challenge I thoroughly enjoy in my art as a photographer.

My own life challenges have informed my sensibilities, especially when it comes to compassion and sensitivity toward others and the environment.  I’m perceptive and respectful when I approach a subject in any situation.  With people shots, it is an honor knowing I’m allowed to reveal a person’s unique qualities as I capture personal and cherished moments.  In nature it is a thrill and privilege to find beauty in creatures and landscapes I share with the world thru my lens.

The flip side to my seriousness is a sense of humor.  Being a huge Gary Larson fan and lover of science, my animal subjects sometimes turn into characters as I imagine them.  Yes, sometimes they “speak” to me.  Inanimate things come to life while observing them, and silly image scenarios emerge for art AND entertainment in many of my prints.  Reverence, gratitude, humor and love are the components of my work.

While I love to travel whenever possible, New Smyrna Beach has been my home for 28yrs.  I have been photographing images here in NSB and around the world my entire life.  In recent years I began selling my work and booking shoots.  My work can be seen in galleries around central Florida where my work is for sale.  Each framed canvas print is unique in that I re-purpose old frames, mix and match materials to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

I studied photography at Daytona State College, and taken numerous workshops including one of my favorite documentary photographers, Mary Ellen Mark.  My work has been seen in various publications, art exhibits, Artist’s Workshop, QVC.  Product catalog work includes photography and graphics.

Organizations where I have worked or volunteered: communityyogansb.org, heART and soul studios, LLC, Habitat For Humanity International, Boggy Creek Gang Camp, Begin Again Children’s Grief Center, Hospice of Hillsborough County.  This year part of the proceeds from my sales will benefit SowHope. www.sowhope.org

In addition to photography, I currently teach Hatha yoga classes with communityyogansb.org, an all- volunteer donation based yoga group that gives all class proceeds to local charities.  I have a special interest in healing-based yoga programs and have participated in workshops focusing on yoga for the Trauma Sensitive.
